NTSC Standard Adopted

April 30, 1941

North America’s current 525-line NTSC (National Television Standards Committee) standard of picture definition is adopted by the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC also authorizes commercial television to begin on July 1. The first transmitters are installed in the capital cities (London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, New York) so only a small proportion of each country is therefore able to benefit.
