August 23 – Germany and the Soviet Union sign a non-aggression pact in Moscow, a secret protocol dividing Eastern Europe into spheres of influence. September 1 – German tanks thunder across the Polish border at precisely 04:45. At 09:00, England and France issue an ultimatum to Germany. September 5 – Neutrality statement of the United States. September 17 – Poland invaded by the Soviet Union from the East. September 27 – Warsaw surrenders and, two days later, Germany and the Soviet Union sign a treaty of friendship, which partitions Poland between them.
