The development of television and the North American television industry into its current form was determined by specific historical circumstances. Some were large trends, such as Post-War economic expansion and the “Baby Boom” of 1946 – 1965.

However, historical developments are also the result of the actions of many individuals. In the words of American historian Arnold Abramson “No one person invented television; most of the inventors were ahead of their time and technology; some were idle dreamers, others were practical men who could turn their ideas into machinery.”
